What is Oligarchy?
Government run by a group of the richest people is called an Oligarchy. A Democracy can become an Oligarchy when a handful of large companies are allowed to gain control. The companies buy the representatives and the media they own work to convince the voters this is the only reasonable way to keep The Enemy away.
President Trump didn’t created President Trump. President Trump is merely the flamboyant mushroom tip of a rot that has been growing for decades.
What is Defunding? Like a Boycott?
Some folks can boycott the big tech companies without much effort. For most folks, there is a degree of entanglement that can a boycott implausibly frustrating and naive. You still make choices. If you were giving a company $100 a month and now you’re giving them $50: that is progress. Everyone who joins in this effort helps guide the tech companies to an understand that their power comes from people. What we want more than shiny gadgets and new conveniences is government that serves our needs over the whims of billionaire oligarchs.
